words, colors, and more words

boden's vocabulary is exploding all over the place! i can barely keep up! i'm pretty sure there is a good chance i'm missing some.... i thought i might be able to keep track until he was two, but i am having serious doubts. he even put together his first three word phrase this past week. we were in the detroit airport on our return from OK, and were going twd baggage claim. i was carrying boden in a pack on my back (makes more sense as then we can load eric down with more bags :) ), and eric took off ahead to grab our bags and i think boden was saying bye bye daddy or something like that, when eric slipped out of sight. boden immediately says "where daddy go?" i was like, did i hear that right? and he said it a couple more times, once pretty slowly so i was sure all the words were there. so fun!

today he absolutely shocked me by saying and identifying the colors 'red' and 'purple.' now, maybe there are other kids that have been doing this for months, but i have no idea when kids are supposed to be able to tell colors and so this totally took me by surprise. we were playing on the floor and he holds up a red tonka car and says 'red car.' and i was like, hmm that really sounds like red to me. he kept repeating it and so i thought i'd see if he could identify which ball was red. he seemed unsure of what i was asking, so i pointed out the red ball and several other things that were red. he then went around pointing to things that were red and saying 'red' as he did. then he held up a purple car and said 'red.' i said, no that is purple. he says, clear as day, 'purple.' i was like, what? that seems like a hard word to say to me. so i said yes purple. he holds the car out again and says 'purple,' then reaches out his hand and points to my pajama bottoms and says 'purple,' which they are. crazy, crazy stuff. he pointed out things to eric when he got home too, like eric's real life red truck.

some other fun words to pull from the word wall:

he learned 'booby' and 'amen' on the same day :) does that mean we have a lot of trouble on our hands in the future???

lynae and wiley were determined to teach boden 'yee-haw' to mark him from his trip down to OK, which they did quite successfully. it is really funny to hear him say it. he really draws out the two syllables with the haw in a much lower register than the yee. lynae and madeline (wiley's step-mom) were separately reminded of the movie 'meet the fockers' where they teach the baby a word and he distinctly says it (if you don't know the scene, you can ask one of us about it, but i don't want to have to write it all out here).

well, that's all i have for now. will try to post soon about our fun and exciting trip to visit aunt nae and uncle wiley and put pictures in an album, but i thought i'd rattle off a quick one now (yes, this was my idea of a quick post when i started, but it is pretty long isn't it :) ).

Have been eagerly checking the blog for new news. Lynae told me he was talking up a storm.
Better teach him more colors since he's got the idea of it.
Waiting to see pictures of him on Mt. Scott. I hear he's become quite a climber and a daredevil.
