finally!

k. so, spring break was at the beginning of april and it is now the end of april and i have finally uploaded the photos from our fun and exciting trip to visit aunt nae and uncle wiley! you will find all 361 photos (even the super blurry one that i didn't intend to click on, but breezed on past and it was too hard to go back and redo) in the 'april 2008 aka spring break OK' album under photos on the right. for those of you not so hardy, i will try and pick a few 'can't live without' shots to blog about some highlights of our trip. hopefully it won't take me as long as it did to put the photos on :) until then boden fans...

words, colors, and more words

boden's vocabulary is exploding all over the place! i can barely keep up! i'm pretty sure there is a good chance i'm missing some.... i thought i might be able to keep track until he was two, but i am having serious doubts. he even put together his first three word phrase this past week. we were in the detroit airport on our return from OK, and were going twd baggage claim. i was carrying boden in a pack on my back (makes more sense as then we can load eric down with more bags :) ), and eric took off ahead to grab our bags and i think boden was saying bye bye daddy or something like that, when eric slipped out of sight. boden immediately says "where daddy go?" i was like, did i hear that right? and he said it a couple more times, once pretty slowly so i was sure all the words were there. so fun!

today he absolutely shocked me by saying and identifying the colors 'red' and 'purple.' now, maybe there are other kids that have been doing this for months, but i have no idea when kids are supposed to be able to tell colors and so this totally took me by surprise. we were playing on the floor and he holds up a red tonka car and says 'red car.' and i was like, hmm that really sounds like red to me. he kept repeating it and so i thought i'd see if he could identify which ball was red. he seemed unsure of what i was asking, so i pointed out the red ball and several other things that were red. he then went around pointing to things that were red and saying 'red' as he did. then he held up a purple car and said 'red.' i said, no that is purple. he says, clear as day, 'purple.' i was like, what? that seems like a hard word to say to me. so i said yes purple. he holds the car out again and says 'purple,' then reaches out his hand and points to my pajama bottoms and says 'purple,' which they are. crazy, crazy stuff. he pointed out things to eric when he got home too, like eric's real life red truck.

some other fun words to pull from the word wall:

he learned 'booby' and 'amen' on the same day :) does that mean we have a lot of trouble on our hands in the future???

lynae and wiley were determined to teach boden 'yee-haw' to mark him from his trip down to OK, which they did quite successfully. it is really funny to hear him say it. he really draws out the two syllables with the haw in a much lower register than the yee. lynae and madeline (wiley's step-mom) were separately reminded of the movie 'meet the fockers' where they teach the baby a word and he distinctly says it (if you don't know the scene, you can ask one of us about it, but i don't want to have to write it all out here).

well, that's all i have for now. will try to post soon about our fun and exciting trip to visit aunt nae and uncle wiley and put pictures in an album, but i thought i'd rattle off a quick one now (yes, this was my idea of a quick post when i started, but it is pretty long isn't it :) ).

fun with grammy

last week tuesday both grammy and i were husbandless, so we decided instead of wallowing by ourselves, we'd get together and party :) we met for a yummy meal at applebee's and then came back to our place to talk and play.

boden has always liked grammy, but this particular night he could not get enough of grammy (grammy said it was due to no men being around. boden loves papa and daddy. but i think he is just a big flirt and grammy is so fun to flirt with :) ) . boden led grammy into the living room almost immediately to show her all his toys and they had such fun playing with his cars and race track. it seemed where ever grammy was, boden had to be. he kept snuggling up to her and found great joy in standing up on the couch and falling back on her as she would catch him. he loved it when she'd tickle him and blow kisses on his neck. it was such fun for me to see the love between the two of them...

hard and play with bode's favorite toy...

daddy often lifts bode up to see himself in the mirror and he was letting us know that he wanted up to look in the mirror. I told boden that mommy wasn't near tall enough to lift him up to look in the mirror and that grammy didn't have that many inches more on mommy. grammy got right up and decided to try (anything for our sweet darling boden) putting him right up on her shoulders!!!

"wee!!"

can it get any sweeter than this???

ps- grammy taught boden what a doggie sounds like (woof woof)!! a doggie is one of boden's favorite animals and we have been trying and trying to teach him what a doggie sounds like (usually arf arf, though we have tried many different variations). grammy comes in and asks boden what a doggie sounds like (woof woof) and after a couple tried, he just does! :) has stuck ever since....

pouchy lip

the things boden has learned at daycare.... how to sign eat, more, all done, please; how to stomp his feet; how to sleep on a mat; and i'm sure much more. we figure he learns certain things at daycare when all of a sudden he starts doing something new that we know we have not tried to teach him. i suppose maybe we have done things unknowingly and he has just picked them up or i had tried and tried to teach him to sign a few things early on, but gave up around when he turned a year, but the more likely explanation is, daycare. well, the latest skill is 'pouchy lip'. last night when boden and i were playing in the living room after supper, all of a sudden he looks and me, lowers his eyebrows, and pushes out his bottom lip with a little twinkle in his eyes. we pouched out our lips together for a while and later when i'd ask him to make a pouchy lip face he would. this morning he initiated it again at breakfast and i must say, it has got to be one of the cutest little expressions ever! so so sweet!

auntie liz came over to play while i got my hair done today and sounds like they had loads a fun. boden even snuggled up to auntie liz and fell asleep in her arms downstairs for about a half hour :) the only problem was uncle mike didn't come to. "mi?" was one of the first things boden said after he ran (well, more tottered at a quick pace) to the door to meet auntie liz. and then later boden brought uncle mike up again after he first asked where mommy and daddy where. guess uncle mike ranks third in the line up??? :) well, at lunch we got boden to make the pouchy lip face for auntie liz, who thought it was hilarious as well. we were even able to catch the two of them making poucy lip faces at each other on film. :)

pouchy lips!

sharin' some love!
