drama queen, smiles, pb & j, and family

just some random thoughts, observations, and 'milestones' i thought i'd throw at ya' all...

recently, heidi's cries have been changing. she is going right from the distinct little newborn baby cry to the slam the bedroom door and fling myself onto the bed drama queen cry. does this mean we are in for it????

when boden was a baby, we would always wonder aloud what was 'normal baby' stuff and what was his own unique personality. could you really see a babies personality that early on? now that heidi is here, we can totally identify personality. specifically those that are different than boden's. one example that makes me laugh, is their smiles. they are/were both pretty smiley babies (though maybe heidi smiles more???), but, when boden would smile he was all ' hey everyone! look at me, aren't i super great and amazing? (which he was and still is :) ), but, when heidi smiles it's like 'hey! look at you! you are the most wonderful and amazing person i have ever laid eyes on!' :)

those of you that know boden know that while he generally eats a wide variety of food he rarely will allow combination foods - yes that means no mac and cheese, grilled cheese, spagetti, pizza, etc all the childhood favorites. well today we had a break through! peanut butter and jelly! the great all american childhood favorite! granted, he freaked out when i tried to fold the bread in half to make it a real sandwich, but it's a start right? one of the combo foods he has had for a while has been jelly on toast (i know, super adventureous right? :) ). this past week i got him to try peanut butter on toast, which he liked pretty we'll. today at lunch i cautiously suggested i put some jelly on the peanut butter toast he was already eating, being very careful not to look him in the eye. he seemed ok with that, so put a thin layer on just waiting for him to freak out. never did. ate the whole thing with a big smile on his face. at one point i think he even told me that he liked it. big step today. those of you that know boden know what a big deal it is. hope i haven't said too much and jinxed us :)

last night i went to one of my annual concerts at school that i'm missing because i'm on maternity leave. saw a lot of people and of course, everyone wanted to know what it was like with two kids. this has been building in the last couple weeks for me, and i've mentioned bits to eric before, but it all lined up for me last night, when i had to think -'what is it like with two?' it has been nearly 2.5 months now, things have shaken out a bit, gotten into a semblance of a routine, actually taken the family out of the house on little excursions... and i think i actually do like it. in fact, though things are not easier with two, i actually think i like it better with two.... i'm not exactly sure why. there is something super special about being able to focus all your attention on one, but with two, it's more a family maybe? less just some little kick we are into? when i came home and told eric this last night, he said, it's more fulfilling. i think he is right....

henry!!!

henry is found! henry is found! many of you know that shortly after boden got henry (one of the thomas trains), we lost him. it was a sad day. we looked everywhere for him, multiple times. boden never forgot him and a couple times a week would ask where henry was, or remind us that henry was lost. then last week, there he was. boden found him somewhere. my best guess is under one of the couches (though eric says he looked several times underneath). boden now thinks he can find all sorts of fun things under it :) i like to think that God zapped him underneath the couch for us to find. boden was so surprised and excited to have found him! the funniest thing about the whole deal is how excited eric and i were to have found him... truely funny! :)

pinch fries

boden has resisted falling asleep in the car this whole weekend. well, i guess all it took was some "orange chicken" and "pinch fries" from wendy's to knock him out. you can see in the picture that he still has his supper in his lap. moments before we took this shot, he was asleep with a chicken nugget mostly in his mouth. so right now we are cruising down the highway with both kids asleep. how nice.

this and that

have been meaning to put some of these pictures up as individual posts, but didn't get around to it, so i thought i'd just put them all together....

heidi is wearing a pink bonnet that i used to wear all the time as a baby....

boden sporting his 'pack pack.' we feel like we are stepping into another big boy phase - we give him his 'pack pack' (which was actually a baby present from grammy :) ) when we are going someplace (like uncle mike's and auntie liz's house) and tell boden he can bring anything he can put into his backpack.

close up of sweet heidi.

amma and big papa came for a visit.

oh the fishies.... one day i was feeding heidi in the living room and boden wanted a snack. i remembered that there was a ziplock of goldfish in the pantry and told boden he could go get that if he wanted, which he promptly scampered off to find. i heard some rummaging and some interesting noises and then not much for a while. after a little while i called out to him to ask him what he was doing and when he wouldn't answer me, i decided to investigate. this is what a found... it was too cute and funny for me to be upset. i just laughed at him, took a picture, and cleaned up most of the goldfish. i was just glad that he had somehow gotten the two big piles on the table and not on the floor :) since then i have gotten him his mid-morning snack for him before i sit down to feed heidi :)

more and more now boden has been wanting to hold heidi. he does a really good job! don't worry, we don't leave him to watch her unattended :)

grammy and papa came over one night and boden wanted to try on papa's snazzy new hat that grammy got him for christmas.
